Those magical cityscapes! Kimberly Sly of Albie Designs

Oh I am so thrilled to share with you guys this profile! Kimberly Sly is a Portland based artist who makes those killer cityscapes you’ve probably seen hanging in your favorite shop or on your favorite design blog. Her story is the best kind of story, because she made a career switch 8 years ago and never looked back.

Kimberly has been an artist her whole life, but for many years it was a hobby instead of her profession. Corporate recruiting was the job she started after college and continued because she thought she wouldn’t be able to make a living as an artist. Then a couple major life experiences happened simultaneously that made her reevaluate things. Her first son was born, and her father in law passed away suddenly. During maternity leave she thought, why not atleast try to make art her job?

Clothing is art you wear. Scarlet Chamberlin profile!

As most of you can tell through my profiles, I think art can be pretty much everything we use every day. Our dishes, or napkins, or clothes! Someone who shares this mindset is Scarlet Chamberlin, who owns Scarlet Chamberlin Styling Co. While she occasionally styles for brands, her main job is personal styling for regular women and men who want her help. I think the reason she has been so successful and built her business to the level she has is her belief that what she is doing is art.

Their bodies are the canvas and their wardrobes are the paints. My stylist perspective is the paint brush. This is my dream job.

Class & Style! At home with Jan Gottlieb

Hello Art Fare! This week I get to show you the home of Jan Gottlieb. I met Jan through her daughter, Cherie. Remember that killer house that I photographed my acrylics in? After we were done Cherie said, you have to meet my mom. That happens almost every time I do a profile and I love it! One person always leads to the next. So I spent a beautiful afternoon with Jan who has worked in home interior stores most of her life. That profession is evident in every room, you can feel she’s had a lifetime of collecting and curating her favorite things.

How cool kids do home style. Profile Amaren & Luke!

When you profile a home where 2 artists live, you know you are going to find some cool shit. Am & Luke are good friends of mine, and I’ve been dying to profile them for you guys because they are such a good example of easy, cool decor without trying so hard! Just low key style, I hesitate to say hipster because how sick of that word are you? But they are in the best way possible. Amaren Colosi is a super talented photographer. I have had the luck to work and collaborate with her for many years. Luke Clements is all the cool professions rolled into one. He is lead singer and guitarist in a punk band called Sleeptalker, illustrator, graphic designer, set designer, actor, model, and when he has spare time if you are very nice, he will photo assist if you beg, which I do on a regular basis. Usually I get turned down because he’s like, touring with his band!

Food as art. Sweetheart St Johns.

Happy holidays Art Fare! I can not think of a better present than to share with you the amazing Anna Henricks, the owner of Sweetheart St Johns. I had one of the most exciting conversations with Anna about her view of food as art. She truly thinks of food in a different way than most people. Have you guys seen Chef’s Table on Netflix? Anna is EXACTLY like the chefs featured on that show. She is so incredibly passionate about what she creates. She is constantly trying combinations that most chefs would never dream of. She dislikes making recipes because she finds them so limiting. Why would she want to do the same thing over again?
